Are considered an ‘at-risk scholar’
It is difficult to provide a definitive definition for an ‘at-risk scholar’, but the University works to a framework which asks:
Is your home located in a region of conflict/war such that your life or the lives of your family are in danger, or such that you could be forcibly displaced due to persecution?
Are you, or your family, at risk of imminent imprisonment, injury, death or persecution?
If you are currently in the UK but were to return to your home country, your life or safety would be at much greater risk.
Any award made to an applicant holding a conditional offer will be subject to those conditions being met in full.
If you’re currently outside the UK and wish to study part-time, the University won’t be able to sponsor you in the UK on a student visa. For those based in the UK and wish to be considered for a part-time PhD, note that if you’re in full-time employment, you will not be eligible for a scholarship. Only those working part-time, have caring responsibilities or other requirements may be considered for an award on a part-time basis.
